The CH5540H (CE compliant model available) comes equipped with a 20″ x 1.25″ , 140 pound, dynamically balanced steel rotor with four reversible chipper blades, easy feeding with a big 28″ x 28″ feed hopper and 5.7″ x 7″ chipper throat opening that allows small side limbs, 360 degree rotating 6″ discharge chute.

The CH5540H features a Digital Display Controller (DDC) hydraulic feed system with a variable speed feed roller with instant reverse.

The Chippers’ hydraulic feed system is electronically controlled. If the rotor speed drops below optimal operational RPM range, the controller pauses the feed roller to allow the rotor to regain speed, and then restarts feeding once optimal rotor RPM is achieved. This AutoFeed function allows for less fatigue on wear parts and maximizes efficiency.

How difficult is it to perform maintenance on the machine?

Crary® Bear Cat® products are designed with ease of maintenance in mind. Proper maintenance is vital and should be performed routinely with blades, belts and bearings being most important.

How long will the chipper blades last?

Depending on the type of wood, age and cleanliness, chipper blades will work well for between 5-15 hours. Dry, dirty wood will dull the blades faster. Alternate dry and wet material to extend blade life. Hydraulic feed machines will have longer blade life.

What are the tractor requirements for these Chippers and Chipper/Shredders?

The Crary® Bear Cat® 4.5″ Chipper requires a tractor with PTO horsepower ranging from 15 hp to 28 hp. The Crary Bear Cat 5″ Chippers and Chipper/Shredders require a tractor with PTO hp ranging from 25 hp to 45 hp. The Crary Bear Cat 8″ and 9″ Chippers require a tractor with PTO hp ranging from 35 hp to 60 hp.

What are these Chippers designed for?

The Crary® Bear Cat® Chipper is designed to effectively reduce the volume of wood, branches, and other organic material. The typical application for this product group is anywhere from light to commercial to municipalities, and/ or rental.

When do I buy a Chipper powered by a tractor Power Take Off (PTO) vs. an engine-driven unit?

If you own a tractor a PTO chipper is a smart economic choice.

When should I buy a gravity feed machine?

If you have an infrequent need for a Chipper and time is not a factor, a gravity feed machine will fit your needs.

When should I buy a hydraulic feed machine?

If time or efficiency is an issue, a hydraulic feed Chipper allows you to be more productive.

When should I chip?

If you don’t plan on composting the material, material is green and stringy or larger than 3/4″ in diameter.

Will the Chipper fit my tractor?

The Crary® Bear Cat® Chippers and Chipper/Shredders are designed to fit all Category 1 three-point hitches. Chipper weight and tractor horsepower needs to be taken into consideration. All Chipper models fit Category 1 Quick Hitch.
